What is the difference between “World Petroleum Council” and “World Petroleum Congress”?

The World Petroleum Council is the only global organisation that represents all aspects of the petroleum industry. At present it is composed of 60 member countries, represented by their corresponding National Committees.

Every three years, the council grants the organisation of a congress, namely the World Petroleum Congress, to one of the member countries.

How many people are expected to attend the 19th World Petroleum Congress?

Following the records of past editions, it is expected that the Congress will be attended by some 4,000 delegates, 400 international media journalists, and 200 young professionals from the oil and gas sector.

Who are the Honour Committee?

The 19th World Petroleum Congress’ Honour Committee is presided by H.M. the King of Spain. Among its members are the President of the Spanish Government and four ministers of his Cabinet, the Energy Commissioner of the European Commission, the President of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the Mayor of Madrid.

What is the difference between the “Spanish National
Committee” and the “Spanish Organising Committee”?

The Spanish National Committee is the National Committee of the World Petroleum Congress in Spain. It is composed of the main oil and gas operators and sectorial associations in this country, namely, Agip, AOP, BP, Cepsa, CLH, Cores, Enagas, Gas Natural, Repsol YPF, Saras, Sedigas, Shell and Total.

Who are the “Spanish Organising Committee”?

The Spanish Organising Committee is a group of people responsible for organising of the 19th World Petroleum Congress, who have been appointed by the Spanish National Committee of the World Petroleum Council.

What is the main theme for the 19th World Petroleum Congress?

The title of the 19th World Petroleum Congress is “A World in Transition: Delivering Energy for Sustainable Growth”. It will be an oil congress on the present and future people needs for energy, and how the oil industry will supply these needs in a sustainable, transparent, ethical and environmentally sound manner.

Who decides the issues to be discussed in the Congress?

A group of senior oil and gas experts appointed by the World Petroleum Council from different countries, namely Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, The Netherlands, Norway, The Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain and the United States.

What is “Comupet Madrid 2008 S.L.”

Comupet Madrid 2008 S.L. is a company incorporated by the Spanish National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, for the sole purpose of organising the World Petroleum Congress. It is the legal representation of the Spanish Organising Committee. The offices are at Paseo de la Castellana 52, Madrid, Spain.

International Trade and Exhibitions (ITE Group PLC) is a leading organiser of international trade exhibitions and conferences. ITE has been appointed by the Spanish Organising Committee as the Official Sales Agent for the 19th World Petroleum Congress.

What is the difference between the “World Petroleum Exhibition” and the “Global Business Opportunity Centre Exhibition”?

The World Petroleum Exhibition is reserved for international oil and gas companies, while the Global Business Opportunity Centre (GBOC) is reserved for all the national committees belonging to the World Petroleum Council.

How large the exhibitions are?

The effective space for sale for the Global Business Opportunity Centre is 4,180m2 and for The World Petroleum Exhibition is 14,760 m2. It is expected that the 100% of this space would be booked well in advance the date of celebration of the Congress.

How many people are expected to visit the exhibitions?

It is expected that some 4,000 delegates attending the Congress, plus some other 5,000 persons will visit the exhibitions.

Can my company be one of the exhibitors?

Oil and gas companies, and their main suppliers, are welcome to be exhibitors at the World Petroleum Exhibition. Please check the “Contacts” section in this website.

Can I visit the exhibitions?

If you are registered in the 19th WPC, the entrance to the Congress Exhibition is free of charge at anytime. Visitors willing to attend will need to get identified at the registration desk.

What is the difference between Exhibitor and Exhibitor with Social Events registration?

All exhibitors and their staff must be registered and display the Congress badge during all times, including move-in and move-out.

Exhibitors, who will not take part in any technical sessions or social events, are entitled to have a number of free exhibitor badges according to their stand size.
In this case, please refer to the Exhibitor's Manual.

There is a special fee (500 euros per person), for Exhibitor who besides attending the exhibition wish to attend the Social Events as well: Opening Dinner (Sunday 29thJune), Spanish Night (Tuesday 1st July), Closing Ceremony (Thursday 3rdJuly) and Madrid Panoramic tour.

Can I get a reimbursement of the Value Add Tax (VAT)?

The 19th World Petroleum Congress' registration fees include a 16% of Value Added Tax (VAT), and luncheon fees include a 7% of VAT.

You can claim reimbursement of these taxes only if you represent a company or business individual with a valid VAT number. For more information, please send a request for VAT refund, with a copy of your Congress invoice to:

How much are the registration fees?

Registration fees are €2,300 for delegates and €500 for accompanying persons and exhibitors.

The following discounts are available: up to €800 discount for early registrations, €950 discount for members of a non-profit institution and academicians, €1,150 discount for session chairpersons and speakers and €1,550 discount for students under 26.

Group booking must be arranged by a centrally appointed co-ordinator from the organisation in one single request.

Every 10 delegate registrations entitles 1 extra free.
Every 20 delegate registrations entitles 2 extra free.
Every 50 delegates registrations entitles 5 extra free.

What is included in the registration fee?

Congress delegate registration fees include: Plenary, Technical & Special Sessions, BP´s Statistical Review Presentation, Congress-related hand-outs & publications, Opening Dinner, Spanish Night, Closing Ceremony, access to the World Petroleum Exhibition and the Global Business Opportunities Centre, bus service from/to official hotels to the Congress venue, as well as to the official social events, Congress official bag and a Madrid Panoramic tour.

Accompanying person and exhibitor with social events registration fees include: Opening Dinner, Spanish Night, Closing Ceremony, access to the World Petroleum Exhibition and the Global Business Opportunities Centre, bus service from/to official hotels and a Madrid Panoramic tour.

Registration fees do not include accommodation, meals, technical and special leisure tours (other than Madrid Panoramic tour), airport transfers or insurance.
