SEGRELLES: "MADRID WILL BECOME THE WORLD CAPITAL OF OIL & GAS, AND SUSTAINABILITY"

The president of the Spanish Organising Committee presented the 19th World Petroleum Congress at the 'Energy Forum'.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, the Secretary General of OPEC, the Energy Commissioner of the European Commission and the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, are amongst those participating in the event.

Madrid, 18th April 2008. The president of the Spanish Organising Committee, Jorge Segrelles, presented today at the 'Energy Forum', the 19th edition of the World Petroleum Congress, an international event which will convert Madrid into 'the world capital of oil & gas, and sustainability.' The protagonist of this year´s edition is sustainable growth, and for the first time it becomes the theme of this Congress: 'A World in Transition: Delivering Energy for Sustainable Growth.'

In the third edition of Energy Forum, which was held from the 16th to the 18th of April in Barcelona, Jorge Segrelles participated in a Luncheon where he discussed the importance of the fact that this event is being held for the first time in Spain, as well highlighting the schedule that has been prepared for this edition by the Programme Committee of the World Petroleum Council.

Segrelles states “the significance of new oilfields discoveries” that, without a doubt, contribute "to the sustainable growth which we will debate in depth at the World Petroleum Congress."

From the 29th of June to the 3rd of July the most relevant experts of the sector will meet in Madrid for the 19th World Petroleum Congress. Personalities such as the Secretary General of OPEC, Abdalla Salem El-Badri, the Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, Ali Al-Naimi, the Energy Commissioner of the European Commission, Andris Piebalgs, and the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Bobou Tanaka, are amongst those participating.

About the World Petroleum Congress

The World Petroleum Congress, to be held in Madrid from 29 June to 3 July, is the most important event in the sector. With a three-year periodicity, brings together leading experts and practitioners in the oil industry. Madrid was elected in 2004 hosted the 19th edition, and will deal first with particular depth the challenge of sustainability.
