PLENARY SESSIONS TO BE THE TOP-LEVEL MEETINGS AT THE 19TH WORLD PETROLEUM CONGRESSFebruary 20th 2008 Plenary sessions will be the main attractions of the 19th World Petroleum Congress. Seven crucial topics will be discussed by an outstanding line-up of oil and gas experts from national and international companies, government bodies and other institutions. These sessions will take place every morning of the 4 day Congress. In some cases, these will be the starting points for latter, in-depth discussions in other technical meetings. The first plenary session, Delivering Energy for Sustainable Growth: The European Perspective, will feature the viewpoints of the European Energy Commissioner, Mr. Andris Piebalgs, along with oil company CEOs and chairmen: Mr. Antonio Brufau from Repsol YPF, Mr. Tony Hayward from BP; Mr.Carlos Pérez de Bricio from CEPSA; Mr. Sergey Bogdanchikov from Rosneft; and Mr. Jeroen Van der Veer from Shell. The second, Inaugural Session, will be held on Monday, June 30th, on the same day as the first plenary session, and will be chaired by His Majesty Juan Carlos I, King of Spain. Mr. Randy Gossen, President of the World Petroleum Council, along with representatives of the Spanish Government. The WPC Excellence Awards for Technical development and Social Responsibility, as well as prizes for the best Youth presentations, will be presented in this session. Tuesday, July 1st, will bring us the third plenary session, Deliverability Challenges: Security of Supply and Demand. Outstanding personalities like Mr. Wenke Han, Director General of the Energy Research Institute, National Development and Reform Commission of China; Mr. Jesús Reyes Heroles, Executive Manager of PEMEX; Mr. Rex W. Tillerson, Chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil; and Mr. Christophe de Margerie, CEO of Total, have confirmed their participation. The next plenary session will be chaired on Wednesday, July 2nd, by H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister&Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar--the host country to the 20th World Petroleum Congress--, and will also feature Ms Linda Cook, Executive Director of Gas and Power. The topic to be discussed will be Natural Gas: An Emerging Global Commodity. The fifth plenary session, Advancing Sustainability in the Oil and Gas Industry, will also be held on that same day. The following personalities have already confirmed their participation: Mr. Francis Saville, Chairman of the Board, Nexen Inc.; Mr. William Hogan, Professor of Global Energy Policy in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and Mr. Helge Lund, President and CEO of StatoilHydro. Plenary sessions 6 and 7 will be held on the final day of the Congress, Thursday, July 3rd. Plenary 6 will deal with Accessing Reserves and Investing in Infrastructures. Keynote speakers will be Mr. John Watson, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Development, Chevron Coorporation; H.E. Shri M. S. Srinivasan, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in India; and Mr. Sergio Gabrielli, President of Petrobras. The 7th plenary session, Societal Expectations of the Oil and Gas Industry, will be the last of these morning plenary sessions, with the participation of Mr. James J. Mulva, Chairman, President and CEO, ConocoPhillips; Mr. Andrew Gould, Chairman and CEO, Schlumberger; and Ms Huguette Labelle, Chairperson of Transparency International. |
