Juan Bachiller, Vice-president of the Spanish Organising Committee of the 19th World Petroleum Congress, has presented the Young Author Awards, created by the Spanish Organising Committee as a recognition to the best projects and posters carried out by professionals of the oil sector who are younger than 35 years old. More than 63 projects from different parts of the world were presented for these awards.

Juan Bachiller emphasized that "it is a great satisfaction for the Spanish Organising Committee to lead for the fist time with this award, since it is the institutionalisation, within the structure of the Congress, of a prize created in order to respond to one of the biggest concerns of the sector, which is, a generational renewal and the inclusion of young professionals into the industry".

The first prize, awarded with 3.000 euros, went to Jaime Turazzi, from Petrobras (Brasil), for the project named ‘Perspectives to the southern cone gas balance using a game theory approach’, with Fernando Mauricio de Aquino and Pedro Leonardo Neves as co-authors. This first award has already been recognized by H. M. the King of Spain Juan Carlos I during the inauguration of the Congress, with the presentation of a commemorative statue.

Both second place awards, of 1.000 euros each one, were given to Laura Watt, from The United Kingdom (Accenture) with the collaboration of Carlos Torres, Damían Payiatakis and Yasmin Lilu as co-authors, for the project titled ‘Putting talent at the heart of your strategy can mean success in frontier markets’; and Jifeng Liang, from China National Offshore Oil Corporation (China) with the collaboration of Yuzhen Zhang as co-author, for the paper "A new method of processing heavy oil: Residue Decarbonization Technology (RDCP)".
