ROUND TABLES ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Objectives

The programme of round tables seeks to be a catalyst to action on issues that foster the achievement of sustainable development. It does so by providing a unique, valuable, and timely opportunity for high-level government representatives, senior officials from the industry and heads of non-governmental organizations to engage in stimulating, forward-looking dialogue on and to shape common responses to critical issues that confront our global industry, to share knowledge on and experiences with best practices in key areas of concern and activity and to build mutually beneficial partnerships and alliances for specific actions to improve the condition of the world for the benefit of mankind.

The round table format

Round Tables are highly interactive. They reflect a wide range of points of view and seek to bring all parties to the table in a major discussion format. The size of the audience ranges from 100-500 participants. Sessions are one or two hours long, including as much time as possible for questions from the audience.

Opening remarks are brief in order to allow maximum time for audience participation. Each panellist speaks for five to seven minutes maximum to lay out the issues. There is ample time for speakers to elaborate on their views during the course of the Round Table.
