STUDENTS PROGRAMME

The Spanish Organising Committee, as part of its commitment to offer young professionals and students an opportunity to actively participate in the 19th World Petroleum Congress, has put underway a Students Programme for up to 50 international students.

In exchange for helping with the Congress proceedings (aiding Chairs, Speakers, CPC Members, the Posters Plaza, etc. for a limited number of hours) the student will have free access to all Plenary, Technical and Special Sessions, the World Petroleum Exhibition, the Global Business Opportunities Centre, and the Closing Ceremony.

€5,000 AWARDS
FOR BEST YOUNG PAPER AUTHORS


The Spanish Organising Committee of the 19th World Petroleum Congress has announced a total of €5,000 in prizes to be awarded for the best papers or posters presented by authors under 35. The Best Young Author will be awarded with €3,000, and two runners-up will receive two €1,000 awards.

"The incentive stems from the firm commitment shared by the World Petroleum Council and the Spanish Organising Committee to encourage young people from all over the world, who are interested in the oil and gas industry, to take part in the 19th World Petroleum Congress. We hope that many young people and students will put forward papers and posters for the Congress and demonstrate the excellence of our future generation" said Jorge Segrelles, Chairman of the Spanish Organising Committee.


GRANTS PROGRAMME

The Spanish Organising Committee (SPOC) shares with the World Petroleum Council (WPC) the strong commitment of promoting the participation of youth in the 19th World Petroleum Congress. Within this commitment, the SPOC will offer the WPC National Committees 50 grants for students to attend the Congress.

Each student grant includes:

Registration fee: The grant student will be registered as delegate and will have access to the Plenary, Technical and Special Sessions, Social Events, the World Petroleum Exhibition, the Global Business Opportunities Centre, Madrid Panoramic tour, Congress Bags and the Youth Reception Party.

Accommodation: 5 nights hotel accommodation (breakfast included) in a centrally situated hotel in Madrid.

During the 19th World Petroleum Congress young professionals and students with an interest in the oil and gas industry will be able to find in Madrid, a place to express their opinion, meet key industry experts, and share their points of view with senior representatives of the petroleum sector and top executives from the world’s leading oil and gas companies.

THE 19TH WPC YOUTH COMMITTEE

The World Petroleum Council, conscience about the importance for the industry to capture young talents, decided to work towards a common objective. Seventeen members chosen by the WPC´s National Committees were gathered in order to create the World Petroleum Council´s Youth Committee. The Committee is being actively engaged in inputting to the Congress, will host an innovative Special Session on Youth, and has developed a network and a forum for young people to express their opinion concerning the Industry. The Youth Committee´s vision is to engage the youth in the petroleum industry to design a sustainable future with the mission to create and nurture a collaborative, global forum for young people to be heard, to bridge the generation gap through mentorship networks and to champion new ideas within the petroleum industry. The Youth Committee will be present at the 19th World Petroleum Council in the Youth Centre stand to guide and assist the young professionals and students.

SPECIAL SESSION ON YOUTH

On Thursday the 3rd of July will take place the Youth Special Session in the Plenary Hall, sponsored by NEXEN. CEO´s from the Oil and Gas Industry, a Government Authority, along with students and young professionals, will get together and discuss about the Main topic Selected for the Special Session.

Does the Industry Need an Image Makeover?

Environmental issues such as climate change, young people’s decision making, moral obligations of the industry, new technologies and professional development for youth are some of the topics that will be revised during this two hour session which will be opened for all Young Professionals and Students that attend IFEMA.

By engaging youth in the challenges faced by the Oil and Gas Industry experience, initiative, barriers, solutions, leadership, etc, will come together to make one of the most interesting Special Sessions of the 19th World Petroleum Congress.

A MEETING POINT FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS:
THE YOUTH CENTRE

IFEMA, Madrid

Inside the Global Business Opportunity Centre, a 90 m2 stand located in a privileged area next to the Plenary Hall, The Social Responsibility Area and the Posters Plaza will gather all participants that come to the Exhibition where young will be able to speak and be heard by decisionmakers.The Youth Centre represents a space to get together where will take place meetings with CEOs, presentations of the best papers and posters submitted by Young Professionals, Videos concerning Young Professionals of the Oil and Gas sector all over the world, surveys concerning youth interests and worries within the industry, sitting places for establishing networks but also for relaxing, and many other activities will be put together for this special space. The Youth Center Exhibition Hall will be accessible for all visitors from the first day of the Congress until the last one.

SPECIAL FARES FOR STUDENTS AND YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

The 19th World Petroleum Congress will held a number of different presentations including Plenary Sessions, Luncheons, Forums, Special Sessions, Best Practice Keynotes, Round Tables and Ministerial Sessions.

The Technical Sessions are structured in four thematic blocks, titled as follows: Upstream, Downstream & Petrochemicals, Natural Gas & Renewables and Managing the Industry. Within these blocks 124 papers and 182 posters where selected worldwide for the Congress.

Different registration fees apply for the Congress depending on the category and dates, but in case of students and young professionals the registration fee will remain unchanged at €750 (You must be 26 years old or younger and may be requested to present verification of being registered in a university or education centre.)
